Today we were remembering how little she was by then, she could barely sit by herself, nowadays she has grown a lot physically (including her lovely curly hair and a mouthful of teeth) and twice as much in personality.
A year ago, even though we didn't know anything parenting we knew right away that she was going to make us the happiest people in the world just by trying to make her happy. We now look at the photos of that day and we can tell how scared she was, we can now read her expressive eyes like a book and if she's that scared now she would run to us and hug us while saying "no, no, no" because she now knows we're here to protect her.
I kind of knew that being a mom would be nice, after all, it is something you always hear from your friends, and I can tell you that my imagination is so powerful that I usually end up disappointed because things don't end up being as great as I imagined them (like the USA the first time I came here) but my creative mind didn't come even close to foresee the greatness of raising a child, how you can be absorbed by looking into her eyes and seeing the purity of her soul, what it feels to be somebody's heroine, somebody's favorite person in the world.
A year ago Katie cried hard when we put her in bed because she was scared and missed her foster home, today, right now, she has me hostage in her room because she wants me right next to her, because she loves me, and that my friends, is priceless.
We decided to adopt not because we couldn't procreate but because it was something we always wanted to do and we are sooo happy with the results (our little bundle of joy) that it makes us wonder if we want more kids, like Paul said "can you win the lottery more than once? because we clearly won the baby lottery with Katie, she is the sweetest and most beautiful baby" and I agree.
She may not have our DNA but she already has many of our traits of personality like mom's temper, wittiness and love for music and dad's sweetness, sense of humor and love for books and she clearly has both our hearts.
Today, our family anniversary we want to thank all the people who helped us on our journey to Katie: our parents, our relatives in the US and Colombia, the Sotelo family sp. Myriam, our adoption agencies sp. Cecilia and Mary, our friends from CAC sp. Melinda, my co-workers, and all of our friends in San Antonio and Colombia, specially my two good friends Joshi and Joha, thank you guys because with your help our dream became true, we're now and forever the Davidson family.
| Very unflattering photo of us, but hey, that's how it goes in real life, things are not always perfect but somehow they are perfect for us. |
Congratulations guys!!! She is soooo cute!!!! I love the curls.
ReplyDeleteCarolina, que divino este post!! He sentido esa sensación que describen tantas veces, de felicidad absoluta, de plenitud, como dice Paul "the baby lottery".
ReplyDeleteMuchas Felicidades!!!!
Congratulations and Happy Family Day to the Davidson family! Such a beautiful blessing she is:)
ReplyDeleteFelicitaciones...que linda! Love the curls! Your heart for adoption is the same as my own. We have no reason biologically that we can't "procreate" but this was put in my husband's and my heart along time ago and so adoption is how our family came to be. Adoption has always been our first choice! Your husband's comment "the baby lottery" is something my husband said quite often when we first got back from Colombia. In fact, it almost deterred us from adopting a second child. But about a year ago we felt that tug in our hearts a little more and we knew that our child was waiting for us again in Colombia. So off we go for another amazing adventure....adding a second strong, smart, intelligent, and beautiful Colombiana into the mix.
ReplyDeleteThanks again for your beautifully detailed timeline. Like I told you before I look at it EVERY single day...sometimes multiple times...hoping that it might make that Article 5 come quicker!
Feliz Día,
Debi
